Gonzalez posted a pair of shutouts against UC Irvine and Cal Poly
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Carlos Gonzalez has been named Big West Defensive Player of the Week following a pair of clean sheets against UC Irvine and Cal Poly. This is Gonzalez's third career weekly honor and UCR's first since the senior goalkeeper also won it back in 2022. Â
The 2022 Big West Co-Goalkeeper of the Year passed Charles Alamo for most career clean sheets with number 17 against the Anteaters before holding scoreless a Cal Poly side that entered Saturday atop the Big West table. Gonzalez also moved into fourth all-time on Saturday in San Luis Obispo with his 66th career start. Â
Gonzalez enters a new week with a 246-minute goalless streak, also tied for first in program history with a career goals against average of 1.37. Â
