Hargress Forces OT With Last Second Three Pointer, Highlanders Topple Colorado State 77-75

FORT COLLINS, Colo.Barrington Hargress scored a career-high 31 points, including a stunning halfcourt 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime, as the UC Riverside Highlanders edged the Colorado State Rams 77-75 in a dramatic finish Friday night at Moby Arena.

"This win against an NCAA tournament team in a hostile environment at elevation showed that our team has fight" said coach Mike Magpayo. "I could not be prouder of the Team for battling and finding a way under adverse conditions and pressure."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UC Riverside (3-3) battled through 18 lead changes in a tightly contested matchup. Hargress connected on 11 of 20 shots, including three 3-pointers, and went 6-for-8 from the free-throw line.
  • Nate Pickens added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Isaiah Moses contributed 12 points and four assists. The Highlanders dominated the boards with a 51-30 rebounding edge, including 15 offensive rebounds, which led to nine second-chance points.
"After our last loss, our hearts were in question, and this win proved that the heartbeat of this program is strong," Magpayo added.
  • The game was tied at 65 at the end of regulation after Hargress launched and connected on a halfcourt 3-pointer as time expired, stunning the Moby Arena crowd and giving the Highlanders a shot at victory in the extra period. In overtime, Rikus Schulte hit a key 3-pointer taking his point tally to seven and added eight rebounds off the bench to help secure the win.
  • UC Riverside finished the night shooting 41.5% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc.
"The execution of the game plan was excellent," Magpayo continued. "The staff challenged the guys to defend and rebound at a high level—no excuses. To outrebound that team by 15 and do a great job on their two leading scorers took grit and focus. That's who we have always been."
