PALM DESERT, Calif. - UC Riverside opened the Long Beach State Tri-Dual on Thursday at the Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert. The event is in response to the canceled Beach Invitational that UCR was originally scheduled to participate in.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• All seven Highlanders competed in round one as opposed to a five-golfer lineup.  
• Vanessa Betancourt finished third overall and was 3-under on the front nine with birdies on two, six and seven.  
• Mitzi Duarte was UCR's second top-10 finisher, shooting a 75 (+3) for ninth. Janna Andaya rounded out the Highlanders' top-10 finishers wiht a 76 (+4) that tied for 10th. 

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

• Betancourt carded her third lowest round of the season and lowest since shooting a 67 (-5) in the first round of the Leadership and Golf Invitational in the fall.

• UCR will wrap up the Tri-Dual on Friday before heading to Phoenix for the GCU Spring Invite.
