PHOENIX - UC Riverside littered the scorecard with birdies on day one of the GCU Spring Invite on Tuesday, and is now second in the field of 21 teams at the GCU Championship Course.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• UCR posted a 36-hole score of 567 on day one. 
• Vanessa Betancourt shot a 67 (-5) in round one, birdying her first hole of the day on a par 5. Betancourt was one of three Highlanders at or below par in each round. 
• Janna Andaya recorded five birdies on her way to a 70 (-2) in round one.  
• Betancourt and Mylan Hirata each shot a 70 (-2) in round two. Hirata posted a pair of rounds at or under par for the second tournament in her last three.  
• Andaya and Maleyna Gregorio each tied a season low in round one with scores of 70 (-2) and 74 (+2), respectively.  

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

• Betancourt, Andaya and Mylan Hirata are in the top 15 overall, all of whom carded at or under par in both rounds.  
• Betancourt is second in the individual field through 36 holes with 11 birdies. Andaya ranks third with 26 pars.  
• Betancourt has also now posted back-to-back sub-70 scores while falling two strokes short of tying a career low.  

UP NEXT 

• UC Riverside will look to keep end the GCU Spring Invite on a strong note with Wednesday's third and final round from the GCU Championship Course. Shotgun start is set for 8:00 a.m.
