LAS VEGAS – UC Riverside began its quest for a Big West title on Sunday at Spanish Trail Country Club, completing round one of the 2024 Big West Championship.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• Janna Andaya (T3) posted a nearly clean front nine with a lone bogey on three and finished her day with birdie number two on 18. Andaya is tied for third heading into round two.  
• Maleyna Gregorio, though, is UCR's leader after 18 holes after posting a 72 (E). Gregorio, currently in second, faced a slow start with two bogeys in her first four holes but was 2-under on her final five holes of the front nine.  
• Vanessa Betancourt and Mylan Hirata are each tied for 29th after each shooting 80 (+8) and Mitzi Duarte is tied for 39th. 
• Gregorio birdied two out of three par 5s on the day.  

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

• UCR is tied for the lead with 12 birdies while ranking third with a 4.90 stroke average on par 5s.  
• Gregorio leads the field individually with a 4.25 average on par 5s.
