Highlanders Fight but Fall in Series Finale

HONOLULU, Hawaii - UC Riverside wrapped up the series against the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors with a Sunday afternoon showdown at Les Murakami stadium. Despite pounding out six hits, Highlander offense couldn't overcome Hawai'i and fell 11-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Hawai'i jumped ahead early with a five-run second inning. They extended their lead in the third with three more runs.
Hawaii defense stifled the Highlanders until the sixth inning when Jayden Lopez grounded out to score Zachary Chamizo and put the Highlanders on the board.
Two Rainbow Warrior home runs in the sixth inning widened their lead, 10-1.
Zachary Chamizo hit a home run and Dominic Martinez hit a ground-out RBI for a big eighth inning for UC Riverside.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

Zachary Chamizo went one for four with two runs and one RBI, including a homerun, his third of the season.
Cole Koniarsky continued to show up to the plate, hitting three for four with one run and two doubles.

Next, the Highlanders return to the Riverside Sports Complex to host their final weekend of Big West play at home. First pitch is scheduled against the UC Davis Aggies for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17.
