Two Top 10 Team Finishes Highlight UCR Invitational

Highlanders get top performances at Ag/Ops Course

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside impressed in its first of two home meets on the season, taking top 10 finishes on both the men's and the women's sides at the UCR Invitational on Saturday morning at the Ag/Ops Course.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Collette Lowengrub was the first Highlander out in front after 2,000 meters with a sixth-place positioning, staying in the top 10 through the entire race and finishing with a podium showing at 20:10.7.  
  • Isatu N'Diaye jumped 10 spots over the final split to claim a top 60 finish while Joy Weber climbed 23 spots over the final 2,000 meters for a top 70 finish in her first UCR Invitational.  
  • As a team, the UCR women rose three places in the final split into a top 10 finish. 
  • UC Riverside's men's squad shifted into gear after the first split, overcoming a slow start before jumping four spots in team scores into fourth.  
  • Joshua Mendoza's monumental 49-spot jump after the first split did the heavy lifting before Mendoza finished 13th as the Highlanders' top runner in the invite. 

NOTABLES 

  • The Highlanders finished the UCR Invitational in the top 10 on both the men's and women's side for the fourth consecutive year. 
  • Five Highlanders on the women's side improved their standing on the final leg of the race to help vault UC Riverside into its fourth consecutive top 10 finish at the UCR Invitational and 18th in the last 19 years.  
  • Lowengrub grabbed the program's second best 6k finish all-time on the women's side, helping the senior notch her second top 10 finish at the UCR Invitational and fourth all-time in the 6k. 
  • The senior from Irvine also set a UCR record on the Ag/Ops Course with her 20:10.7 mark over 6,000 meters.  
  • UCR men recorded their second highest finish at the UCR Invitational since 2014 and second consecutive top five finish.  
  • Mendoza's 23:48.4 took over 10th on the program's all-time list in the 8k.
