SEATTLE, Wash. - UC Riverside kicked off the 2025 season on Friday, January 31 with day one of the UW Invitational at Dempsey Indoor. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• UCR wasted no time setting top marks on day one in Seattle. Andrew Castellon (14:29.58) picked up the first top 10 mark of 2025 in the 5k, followed by true freshmen Taylor Oden (9.10) and Arthur Celestine Jr. (8.30) each doing so in the 60mH.  
• Joshua Mendoza (14:06.78) shattered his previous 5k collegiate best set at last year's MPSF Championships.  
• The Highlanders' triple jump triple threat of Kyan Thomas (14.89m/48-10.25), Chelsea Aninyei (12.33m/40-06) and Melanie Ceballos (12.03m/39-05.75) all set top 10 marks.  
• UCR took three of the top five spots in the women's 200 dash, led by the win from Raykiyat Olukoju (24.07).  
• The Highlanders ended the night with a school record, smashing the program's old men's DMR mark. Noah Murasmith, Andrew Parkinson, Reggie Day and Tyler Kaan closed out day one with the record.  

NOTABLES 

• Thomas placed fifth all-time in the triple jump fresh off his trip to last year's NCAA West Preliminaries in Arkansas.  
• Aninyei and Ceballos took second and third, respectively, in the triple jump.
