Henderson and Worthy combine for 52 as Highlanders outlast Cal Poly on the road

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Highlanders earned its first Big West road win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Cal Poly 88–84 behind 52 combined points from Andrew Henderson and Marqui Worthy .

Henderson led the Highlanders with 28 points on 10-for-19 shooting and added nine rebounds. Worthy followed with 24 points, five rebounds and four assists. Osiris Grady added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists, and BJ Kolly posted 10 points and five boards.

UC Riverside (5–5, 1–1 Big West) took control in the first half, using a strong offensive stretch to build a 46–36 halftime lead. Worthy hit a three during a 5–0 push to make it 35–25, and Henderson scored nine points over the final 10 minutes of the half to keep UCR in front at the break.

The Highlanders extended their advantage to 17 midway through the second half before Cal Poly mounted a late charge. The Mustangs trimmed the deficit to 83–82 with 24 seconds left, but Henderson responded with two free throws, and Grady added two more to push the margin to 87–84 . Henderson secured the final defensive rebound before adding one last free throw with eight seconds remaining to close the game.

UC Riverside shot 54 percent from the field, outscored Cal Poly 52–36 in the paint and held a 19–7 edge in fastbreak points.

The Highlanders travel to Provo, Utah, for a nonconference matchup at BYU on Saturday, December 13.
