UC Riverside Captures Plenty of Hardware at MPSF Championships

Highlanders shine at The Podium in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. - UC Riverside collected plenty of hardware this past weekend at the MPSF Championships at The Podium in Spokane.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Raykiyat Olukoju (23.30) set a school record and took home the MPSF title in the 200. 
  • Aaron Fruge (7.38/24.02-50) shortly followed it up with a first-place finish in the long jump, also clocking in at No. 2 in school history. 
  • Melanie Ceballos (7.68) and Natalia Carrillo (7.72) both set personal bests in the 60 prelims on Friday. Ceballos later earned All-MPSF honors with a 5.80/19.00-50 in the long jump, a new No. 3 all-time in program history.  
  • UCR began the hardware collection early on Saturday with Maxwell Jefferson's 8.02 in the 60H for all-conference honors and second all-time.  
  • Kyan Thomas and Mercy Ehiemere earned all-conference honors in the triple jump (15.25/50.00-00) and 400 (54.62), respectively.  
  • The Highlanders' women's 4x400 relay crew broke the school record for the third time this year, clocking in with a 3:40.82 to take the MPSF title.  
  • Reggie Day and the men's 4x400 crew set top 10 marks to round out the Highlanders' impressive performance in Spokane. Day set a school record with a 47.80 in the 400, while the 4x400 crew turned in a 3:17.37 for 10th all-time.  

NOTABLES 

  • UC Riverside collected eight individual top 10 marks on Friday, including four in the women's 60: Olivia McIntosh Adams (7.58/2nd), Ceballos (7.68/6th), D'Lainey Nakamoto (7.69/8th) and Carrillo (7.72/10th). 
  • Olukoju posted her second consecutive top two finish in the 200 at the MPSF Championships, and the Highlanders secured their second consecutive All-MPSF honor in the women's 400.  
  • Olukoju's 200 time is now 33rd in all of Division I.
