Track & Field Completes Busy Week Across Southern California

Highlanders find success locally on the biggest stage

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside Track & Field successfully completed a busy week at its most high profile meets, finding success at the Pacific Coast Invitational, Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ingrid Tamayo kicked off the week on Wednesday morning with an all-time outdoor top 10 in the 10k (36:51.17) at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
  • Also seeing the all-time top 10 in Azusa was Ashraf Abdelmagid in the 5k (13:54.54) and 1500m (3:48.05). Sophie Moser-Smith additionally impressed in the 1500m (4:44.90) at Bryan Clay, dropping her time by seven seconds.
  • In Long Beach, Maxwell Jefferson (14.20) and Ebba Adinew (14.67) turned in a pair of all-time top 10 110H marks at Thursday's Pacific Coast Invitational.
  • Avianna Carrillo (24.33) and Reggie Day (21.64) both lowered their 200m times on Thursday at Pacific Coast.
  • UCR's women's 4x100 crew set a new season mark on Friday with a 45.88 at Mt. SAC, also moving up a spot to fifth on the program's all-time top 10 list.
  • The Highlanders' 4x400 relay teams ended Friday on an emphatic note with a school record on the women's side (3:38.81) and a heat win and fourth all-time for the men (3:10.64).
  • UCR's triple jump squad shined in Mt. SAC as well. Calvin Black (14.84m/48-08.25) and Melanie Ceballos (12.11m/39-08.75) moved to No. 9 and No. 8, respectively, on the program all-time list while Kyan Thomas (50' 2") brought UCR's week to a dramatic close with a bronze medal finish in Saturday's invite.

NOTABLES

  • Abdelmagid recorded just the fifth men's outdoor 5k time under 14 minutes in UCR Track & Field history and first since Arman Irani in 2021.
  • Tamayo's time marked the second straight meet that a Highlander has made the top 10 in the event.
  • Jefferson set a new personal best in the 110H, surpassing his previous time set at this year's UCR Spring Track Classic.

UP NEXT

  • UC Riverside returns home next weekend for its second and final home meet, hosting the Chris Rinne Invitational April 25-26 at the UCR Track Stadium.
