RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Highlanders put their two-game streak on the line Thursday night at the SRC. The Roadrunners of Cal State Bakersfield were in town looking for their first conference win of the year. In fact, their last conference win came last year in Riverside. However, the Highlanders prevailed, 64-42.
Reigning Big West Conference Player of the Week,
Hannah Wickstrom, had a game high 24 points. For the second game in a row she was perfect from the free throw line, 11-for-11. Dating back to their game at Hawai'i, Wickstrom has hit 22 straight free throws.
The Highlanders out-rebounded the Roadrunners 44-38.
Seneca Hackley and
Maya Chocano combined for 17 of them. Chocano also scored 13 for UCR which is a new career high for the junior forward.
Kaylani Polk rounded out the scoring adding 13 of her own. For Polk it was her fourth game in double figures this year and two points off her career high that she set earlier this year at CBU.
The 42 points UCR held Cal State Bakersfield was the fewest points UCR surrendered this year. Next up will be one of the best teams in the Big West as the Highlanders travel to La Jolla to take on UC San Diego on Saturday. Game time is set for 4PM.
