
Highlanders Blank Idaho, 2-0, For Third Straight Victory

Riverside, CA—Kelly Hurley and Tracy Schuster each scored a goal as the Highlanders moved to 3-0-1 in the Big West with a 2-0 win over visiting Idaho.
The Highlanders took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute when Hurley converted from about eight yards out. Following a foul, Kristi Tanaka served a kick into the box, which Hurley took and put on net. Goalkeeper Janell Miller stopped the initial shot, but Hurley got the rebound and put it in.
The Highlanders added to the lead in the 65th minute when Tracy Schuster picked up the ball at midfield and beat the defense, putting it far post for the score.
The game was scoreless at halftime. The Highlanders outshot the Vandals 6-4 and had several good scoring opportunities, including a shot by Hurley that hit the cross bar and bounced in front of the net, but was cleared. On the afternoon Hurley had a game-high eight shots, four on goal.
Idaho peppered UCR goalie Kristin Cocks with long shots in the second half but never really tested her. Jennifer Kiebel's header in the final minute was the only difficult test for the senior, who made six saves and moved to 7-1 on the season with her third shutout of the season. The Highlanders outshot the Vandals (2-8-1, 0-3-1) 21-15.
The Highlanders (9-4-1, 3-0-1) return to action on Friday, November 18 as they face UC Irvine on the road.
