Baird’s equalizer secures a point on final day of the season
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside (4-12-2, 2-7-2 Big West) finished its 2026 season and second under Mike Dibbini on Saturday afternoon at the UCR Soccer Stadium with a 2-2 draw UC Santa Barbara (8-5-7, 3-4-4 Big West).
Saturday's final day was almost a mirror image of the last time the two sides met in Riverside, when an 89th-minute equalizer from Mimi Dominguez salvaged a 2-2 draw.
Each side logged its first shot in the first six minutes. Natalie Darling put UCR on the stat sheet after trying to find the lower left corner in the fifth minute, and KaMia Elliott, fresh off her first career clean sheet, was called to action half a minute later.
The Gauchos broke the deadlock in the eighth minute, and Albertine Faye tried to pull one back in the ninth minute but was denied.
UCR averted a 2-0 hole in the 18th minute with an off-target shot from the visitors, and Faye redeemed herself in the 22nd minute with an equalizer to the lower right corner for her second goal of the year.
Elliott made save number four in the 32nd minute and was saved by the crossbar in the 37th minute. Santa Barbara went ahead just before the break with the go-head goal in the 43rd minute.
UCR landed all four of its first-half shots on target.
Trinity Hale relieved Elliott in net out of halftime and was called to action off the opening whistle, taking away the lower center. Faye attempted to equalize in the 62nd minute, but missed the brace with a shot high and past the left post.
Hale made her second save two minutes later and watched a shot sail over the bar in the 72nd minute.
Ally Yoshimura went for goal in the 74th minute and tried for the lower right, but Macie Baird did the honors instead with a 75th-minute equalizer to the lower left corner. UCR's back line blocked a potential go-ahead goal in the 78th minute.
Mia DiLeo nearly put the Highlanders ahead in the 79th minute, just minutes after assisting on Baird's strike.
Santa Barbara missed another go-ahead strike in the 87th minute.
UC Riverside has concluded its 2026 season.
