Finley Aghassi finds the scoresheet in setback at LBSU
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside (3-12-1, 1-7-1 Big West) took on its final road match of 2026 on Saturday night at George Allen Field with a 3-1 defeat at Long Beach State (9-4-5, 3-2-3 Big West).
Long Beach State took an early lead with a third-minute opener off a corner.
UCR won its own corner in the seventh minute and held the ball in the attacking half of the pitch for a spell, but went down 2-0 in the 13th minute after VAR confirmed the Beach's second goal.
UC Riverside carried the ball into Long Beach's half halfway through the first half upon making reinforcements to the squad, but the Beach dealt with UCR's pursuit. The Highlanders picked up their first shot during that spell in the form of a blocked attempt from Finley Aghassi.
Mia DiLeo cut out a Long Beach attack to set up a corner in the 33rd minute, and a second Beach set piece went over for a KaMia Elliott goal kick.
Albertine Faye picked up a loose ball to cut inside and nearly found the far post in the 38th minute. The proceeding scramble in front of goal on the corner turned into a Long Beach free kick, and Elliott punched out a shot just before halftime.
UC Riverside dealt with an early corner and added a frantic goal line clearance in the 55th minute. Harlem Hipps took a ball from Faye and sent a cross through the six in the 65th minute with no one on the other end.
Long Beach State added a third in the 73rd minute on a scramble in front of Elliott, but Aghassi pulled one back on the cusp of 15 minutes left for her second goal in as many matches.
Morgan Humphrey wanted to find Hipps in the 77th minute, but Long Beach's keeper came out to intercept.
UCR continued pushing forward in the final 10 minutes as Faye looked for a target at the back post.
UCR returns to the court on Friday, October 30, with a 6:00 pm first serve against Sacramento State at the SRC Arena on ESPN+. Tickets are available now at GoHighlanders.com/tickets.
