
Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision To Cal Poly In Home FInale

Riverside—Megan Shlegel and Alexa Jontulovich scored a goal each as Cal Poly held on to a 2-0 win over UC Riverside, in the Highlander’s home finale on Sunday at the UCR Soccer Stadium.
With two minutes remaining in the first half, Cal Poly finally broke a scoreless tie as Shlegel scored for a 1-0 Mustang lead. Erin Martin received a pass at the top of the bow and fell to the ground under intense pressure from Highlander defenseman Kristi Tanka. Martin somehow managed to pass the ball to her left and hit a streaking Shlegel who beat Kristin Cocks to the right post.
In the 65th minute, Cal Poly padded the lead as Brooke Flamson dribbled through the Highlander defense and centered to Jontulovich who put the ball into the net.
With the win, Cal Poly improves to (7-1 Big West, 12-6) while UCR falls to 3-3-1, 9-8-1.
Cocks recorded ten saves in taking the loss. Mustang goalie Greta Shirdon tallied three saves in posting the shut out. The Mustangs out shot UCR 22-14.
The Highlanders will return to action on Friday, November 8, in a Big West Conference match-up, to play Cal State Fullerton on the road in their season finale at 1:00 PM.
