Women’s Soccer Records Fifth Shutout Of Year With 2-0 Win Over SDSU

Riverside—For the fifth time this season, the UC Riverside women’s soccer team shut out an opponent with a 2-0 win over visiting San Diego State University and ending the Aztecs three-game winning streak Wednesday afternoon at the UCR Soccer Stadium.
The Highlanders (6-3-2) took advantage of a deflected shot in front of the net, with sophomore Vanessa Chanez containing it and finding the back of the net to give UCR a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.
Nearly 10 minutes later Amber Plumlee scored from about 12 yards out on a pass from Kelly Hurley in the 40th minute to take a 2-0 lead into the half.
Although the Aztecs (4-5-0) outshot the Highlanders, 19-9, it was UCR being able to take advantage of the scoring opportunities with two goals on three shots on goal.
The Highlanders wrap up this year’s non-conference schedule with a 6-3-2 record and begins the Big West schedule against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, October 5 at 1:00 p.m.
