UC Riverside 2, Idaho 0 - Box Score
Moscow, ID—The third-year UC Riverside women’s soccer program reached a major milestone, with back-to-back 10-win seasons after shutting out Idaho, 2-0, in Moscow, Idaho, Friday afternoon. With an earlier win over Fullerton by Utah State, the Highlanders and Aggies join Cal Poly as the only Big West teams over the 10-win mark.
Conversely, the losing streak has hit five games for Idaho, losing it’s fifth straight match. In the last 10 games, the Vandals are 0-8-2.
The Vandals (2-10-4, 0-6-0) held the visiting Highlanders (10-5-1, 4-2-0) close for much of the game, locking into a defensive battle that went into the half tied 0-0.
It wasn’t until the 73:35 mark that Riverside was able to break the scoreless tie when Angela Reling had a ricochet off the post land right at her feet that she was able to tap in for a 1-0 lead.
Just over six minutes later at the 80:03 mark, Riverside scored again when Amber Plumlee connected with Jessica Armel on a through pass that Armel was able to put into the back of the net.
Freshman goalkeeper Tawny Poggio earned her sixth shutout of the season and notched three saves.
The Highlanders will head to Logan, Utah, to face the Aggies in what could determine second place in the conference. The teams will meet at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26. The Highlanders return home to close out the regular season with games against UC Irvine on Friday, Oct. 31 and Long Beach State on Sunday, Nov. 2.
