
UC Riverside Women's Soccer Ties Bulldogs, 1-1, in Double Overtime

Fresno, CA—The UC Riverside women's soccer team scored late in the second half to tie the game, 1-1, and send it to overtime where is ended in a tie after two extra periods against Fresno State Wednesday night at Bulldog Stadium.
In the first overtime period, both teams managed just one shot apiece, but neither was on goal. In the second overtime the Bulldogs (3-2-2) were able come on strong getting off five shots and getting three on goal. The Highlanders (4-1-2) managed just one shot on goal.
UCR's Kelly Ferguson scored her third goal in the last two matches in the 75th minute to tie the game, 1-1. Ferguson deked the Bulldogs' netminder with a quick shot to the lower-right corner that went in after the keeper dove to the left.
Vanessa Chanez was able to get the ball and drill a hard shot as time expired in the second half, but the Bulldogs' goal keeper Jeannette Paine was able to grab the ball for the save and force overtime.
The Bulldogs struck first after Kortney Lewis was able to work through the Highlander defense and nail a shot to the upper-left corner of the net to take a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.
Paine finished with six saves on 13 shots faced, while UCR's Tawny Poggio made five saves on 23 shots.
The Highlanders will return home on September 21 to host Portland State at the UCR Soccer Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
