Highlanders Fall 2-0 At UC Irvine To Conclude 2007 Season

Irvine, CA—A season that was marred by injuries for the UC Riverside Highlanders (8-9-1, 2-5-1) came to an end Sunday against the Anteaters of UC Irvine (11-6-2, 5-2-1) by a 2-0 score in Irvine.
A goal by UCI early and another late sealed the Highlanders’ fate. For most of the match the ball was controlled by the visiting team, but all their shots were stopped by Anteater keeper Danielle de Seriere.
Only 4:25 into the match Irvine’s Makenzie Beam found the loose ball off a corner kick and scored uncontested for the 1-0 lead. The Highlanders were unable to tie the match with senior Jenna Leonti mustering all the offense as she put all four of her shots on goal.
Finally in the 86th minute, Gilly Acedo on a feed from Kim Horn put the match away from nine yards out.
UCR finishes the 2007 season under .500 for the first time since their inaugural year in 2001.
The four Highlander seniors this season were Brittany Coulter, Jill Del Rosario, Sumariya Smith and Jenna Leonti.
