
Highlanders Drop 2-0 Decision To Lions At Loyola Marymount

Los Angeles, CA—The defensive minded Lions from Loyola Marymount (6-3-1) handed UCR (6-4) a 2-0 loss in the final non-conference match of the season for the Highlanders.
UC Riverside was unable to get any momentun in a match where their opposition had plenty of it. The win for LMU was their sixth straight, setting a new school record.
Deanna Borgelt kept the Highlanders in the match in the first half as she made three saves, keeping the match scoreless at the break. However, only 1:38 into the second half, LMU’s Katie Osborne’s shot from 28 yards out, gave the Lions the only goal they needed for the victory.
Loyola Marymount’s Lacey Bartels made the score 2-0 on her successful penalty kick at 57:16.
UCR’s offense manged only two shots in the second half, and trailed overall in the shots category 16-6.
The Highlanders will put this loss behind them as they look toward Big West Conference play. Their first opponent will be Cal Poly this Friday. UCR will travel to San Luis Obispo for a 7:00 pm match.
