Lennala's Game-Winner Lifts Women's Soccer Past Cal State Northridge

Northridge, CA—Tessa Lennala (Temecula, CA) scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute of play to give the UC Riverside Women’s Soccer team a 1-0 victory over Cal State Northridge on Thursday afternoon in UCR’s Big West Conference finale. Both teams were scoreless heading into the final 10 minutes of play when Lennala’s league-leading 10th goal on the season found its way into the net from 35 yards out.

The Highlanders (7-10-2, 2-5-1) and Matadors (7-9-2, 2-4-1) were fairly even throughout the match as UCR outshot Northridge by the smallest of margins, 12 to 11. Lennala’s shot propelled UCR to their second conference win in a row and gave last week’s Big West Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week her third goal in the last two games.

Goalkeeper Brittany Goetz (Irvine, CA) had six saves for the Highlanders.

UC Riverside will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1:00 pm as they take on Seattle University in a non-conference match for their final game of the season.
