After opening the 2008 season with four straight losses to ranked opponents, the UCR Men's Soccer Team (1-4) picked up its first win of the year with a 3-1 decision over Oral Roberts (1-3) in the UNLV Nike Invitational.
Jeremy Clay (Fontana, CA) got the scoring started with 5:16 gone in the first, entering the box unchecked and scoring off a crossing pass from Xavier Perez (Santa Ana, CA) to give the Highlanders their first lead of the season.
Oral Roberts tied the score at the 28:33 mark, but Highlanders freshman Cesar Diaz (Corona, CA) netted his second goal of the season late in the period to give UCR the lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
Midway through the second half, the Highlanders picked up an insurance goal, with Diaz playing a role in that score as well, as Robert Cate (Alameda, CA) tapped in a Diaz cross for the final goal of the night.
UC Riverside's final game at the UNLV Nike Invitational is Sunday, September 14 at 10:30 am PT.
