UC Riverside 1, Long Beach State 1 (2 OT)
The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team (5-8-4, 0-5-1) earned its first Big West Conference points of the season Sunday afternoon as they tied Long Beach State (5-9-3, 1-4-1) 1-1 in the team's final road match of the season. UCR has two more home matches left on the docket beginning Friday, October 30 against Pacific (7 pm PT) and finishing up Sunday, November 1 vs. UC Davis (1 pm).
The Highlanders got on the scoreboard first at the 17:34 mark when Ashley Parks (pictured) headed in Denise Thomas's cross for her second goal of the season. Thomas increased her team-leading points total to 8 with the assist, and UC Riverside took that 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
With 10:39 gone in the second half Highlanders keeper Jessica White blocked a 49ers free kick, but Lindsay Bullock controlled the rebound and slid it past the UCR defense to tie the match at one
The score remained tied through regulation and the Highlanders were off to their seventh overtime match of the season. UC Riverside's Heidi Gassaway was credited with the only shot taken by either team in the first overtime, and in the second the Beach outshot UCR 5-0 but couldn't find the back of the net.
