Second Half Goal Gives CSF Titans 1-0 Women's Soccer Win Over UCR

Cal State Fullerton 1, UC Riverside 0
UC Riverside began the Big West portion of its schedule Sunday evening, but it was visiting Cal State Fullerton picking up the first conference win of the season as the Titans (3-5-3, 1-0-0) used a second-half goal to upend the Highlanders (5-4-3, 0-1-0), 1-0.
Despite being outshot 17-9 on the night, the Highlanders had their offensive chances. Their best opportunity may have come early in the match when, with 12:12 gone in the first, Deborah Musa's (pictured) shot bounced off the right post. Three and a half minutes later, Ashley Parks' header was deflected by a defender and the team's would head into halftime tied at zero.
The Titans forced the action early in the second half as they went on to outshoot UCR 10-5 in the period. That effort paid off with just over 30 minutes remaining in the match when Casey Volk stole the ball in the Highlanders' defensive side of the field, slotting it to the left to Brisa Gonzalez. Left one-on-one with UCR keeper, Jessica White, Gonzalez was able to slide the ball between White and the post for what would prove to be the winning goal.
The Highlanders continue with the Big West portion of their schedule this weekend heading to Cal Poly on Friday, October 9 for a 7 pm PT kickoff, and to UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, October 11 at 5 pm.
