UC Riverside 2, UC Davis 0
The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team said goodbye to its five seniors Sunday afternoon sending them off in grand fashion with a 2-0 win over UC Davis. UCR honored (l-r) Ashley Parks, Denise Thomas, Lauren Leonard, Nicole Yumori and Heidi Gassaway prior to kickoff for their contributions to the program over the past four years.
The first half played out evenly as both teams had opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net. The Highlanders (6-9-4, 1-6-1) took control in the second half, however, outshooting UC Davis (6-10-1, 1-7-0) 17-9 in the period and picking up two scores in the final 45 minutes.
UCR's first goal featured Thomas and Parks connecting with one another off of a corner kick. With 9:41 gone in the second, Parks rose above the scrum in front of the Aggies goal, heading Thomas's corner kick past UC Davis keeper Kathleen Brandl. It was Parks third goal of the season
Not satisfied with the one goal lead, the Highlanders continued to apply the pressure on offense, and with 18:25 remaining that pressure paid off. Brenna Schaff sent a ball into the right corner where Kristy Adcock corralled it, crossing it into the box where Kayla Troesh gave UCR its final 2-0 advantage.
