UC Riverside at Cal Poly Game Notes
UC Riverside’s stretch of four straight road games continues Thursday at Cal Poly with the team’s third contest in a row played away from the Student Recreation Center. The Highlanders are 1-8 on the road this season compared to 6-2 at home. A win would snap a four-game losing streak for UCR as well as a string of six consecutive road losses. UCR fans can listen to all the action as The Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, brings the call to gohighlanders.com.
The Highlanders won both meetings between the clubs a year ago including their most impressive Big West Conference performance ever in a 91-57 home win over the Mustangs on January 2, 2009. Kyle Austin led all scorers in that game with 24 points, and he is UCR’s leading scorer again this year averaging 16.8 points (second most in the conference) overall and 20.0 points in conference games. The Pasadena, CA junior has eight straight double-digit scoring performances including a game-high 25 points in UCR’s Jan. 16 loss at UC Santa Barbara
The Mustangs have already matched their Big West Conference win total from a year ago when they finished the season with a 3-13 mark, and they are one win away from matching their overall win total of seven.
Lorenzo Keeler leads three Cal Poly players in double figure scoring averaging 15.1 points on the season. Will Donahue averages 11.8 points per game, but has not played in the last six Mustangs games, and Shawn Lewis averages 10.0 points.
