Road Swing Continues For Women's Soccer With Sunday Match At CSUN

Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team remains on the road this weekend as they travel to Cal State Northridge for a 6 pm PT Sunday meeting with the Matadors. Fans who are unable to attend the match may follow it on their computers via GameTracker.
The Highlanders are looking for their first conference win of the season as three of their four losses in the Big West this year are by just one goal. The Matadors are 3-1-0 in conference play pending the outcome of their Friday, October 15 match at UC Irvine. Cal State Northridge heads into that match coming off of a 2-0 win at Cal Poly on Sunday, October 10.
UC Riverside and Cal State Northridge have faced one another on nine prior occasions with the Matadors owning a 5-4-0 record in the series. CSUN won the 2009 meeting by a 1-0 score.

The Highlanders 1-0 win over Texas State on September 3 was the team's first road win since they toppled Cal State Northridge, 1-0, on October 30, 2008.
THE THINEST OF MARGINS I
The final margin in 29 of the Highlanders last 35 matches has been 1 goal or less including 10 of 14 this season.
THE THINEST OF MARGINS II
Prior to the team's 3-0 loss at San Jose State on September 12, each of UC Riverside's previous 8 losses, and 12 of the team's previous 13, were by just one goal.
WHITE OUT
Highlanders goalkeeper Jessica White recorded 11 saves in the Highlanders' 1-0 season-opening loss to UNLV. Two weeks later, she was credited with 12 saves in the Highlandes 1-0 loss at Texas. She leads the Big West Conference with 65 saves.
In 2009, White finished the year with a goals against average of 0.80 (49th lowest in the nation) and a save percentage of .875 (10th best in the country). From August 28 through September 13, she ran off a 454 minute and 55 second scoreless streak spanning six matches.
Her 7 shutouts on the season were tied for the second most in Highlanders history.
AND A FRESHMAN SHALL LEAD THEM
Freshman Melisa Escamilla is the Highlanders leading goal and point scorer this season, and is looking to become the third freshman to lead UCR in those categories.The other two are Jessica Armel (4 goals, 1 assist) in 2002 and Renee Scachetti (7 goals, 4 assists) in 2003.
BONUS SOCCER
The Highlanders set a program record in 2009 with seven overtime matches on the year going 1-2-4 in those contests. This season, they are 0-0-2 in their two matches that have gone past the 90-minute mark. The team's last overtime win came in a 1-0 decision over Texas State on August 30, 2009.
SEPTEMBER SWOON
The Highlanders were shutout in each of their seven September matches which is the longest such streak in the history of the program. The finally broke out of their slump with a Candis Novis goal in a 2-1 loss to UC Santa Barbara on October 1.
