Women's Soccer Concludes Season With Matches Against UC Davis & Pacific

Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team concludes its 2010 season this weekend with road matches at UC Davis (Friday, October 29, 2 pm PT) and Pacific (Sunday, October 31, 1 pm). Fans who are unable to attend the matches may follow them on their computers via GameTracker (UC Davis / Pacific)
The Highlanders are coming off of a 1-0 loss to 15th-ranked UC Irvine on Sunday, October 24. The Aggies have dropped two straight, and are one game ahead of UC Riverside in the Big West Conference standings. The Tigers are trying to secure a spot in the four-team conference postseason tournament, and they bring a 4-2-0 Big West mark into the weekend.
UCR has never lost to UC Davis in six matches (5-0-1), while Pacific owns a 5-1-3 all-time record against the Highlanders.
GAME NOTES
ROAD WARRIORS
The Highlanders 1-0 win over Texas State on September 3 was the team's first road win since they toppled Cal State Northridge, 1-0, on October 30, 2008.
THE THINEST OF MARGINS I
The final margin in 31 of the Highlanders last 37 matches has been one goal or less including 12 of 16 this season.
THE THINEST OF MARGINS II
Prior to the team's 3-0 loss at San Jose State on September 12, each of UC Riverside's previous 8 losses, and 12 of the team's previous 13, were by just one goal.
WHITE OUT
Highlanders goalkeeper Jessica White recorded 11 saves in the Highlanders' 1-0 season-opening loss to UNLV. Two weeks later, she was credited with 12 saves in the Highlandes 1-0 loss at Texas. She leads the Big West Conference with 94 saves which are the fifth most in the history of the program.
In 2009, White finished the year with a goals against average of 0.80 (49th lowest in the nation) and a save percentage of .875 (10th best in the country). From August 28 through September 13, she ran off a 454 minute and 55 second scoreless streak spanning six matches.
Her 7 shutouts on the season were tied for the second most in Highlanders history.
AND A FRESHMAN SHALL LEAD THEM
Freshman Melisa Escamilla is the Highlanders leading goal and point scorer this season, and is looking to become the third freshman to lead UCR in those categories.The other two are Jessica Armel (4 goals, 1 assist) in 2002 and Renee Scachetti (7 goals, 4 assists) in 2003.
BONUS SOCCER
The Highlanders set a program record in 2009 with seven overtime matches on the year going 1-2-4 in those contests. This season, they are 0-0-2 in their two matches that have gone past the 90-minute mark. The team's last overtime win came in a 1-0 decision over Texas State on August 30, 2009.
SEPTEMBER SWOON
The Highlanders were shutout in each of their seven September matches which is the longest such streak in the history of the program. They finally broke out of their slump with a Candis Novis goal in a 2-1 loss to UC Santa Barbara on October 1.
