11/9/2010 11:26:01 AM | Women's Volleyball
Riverside—The UC Riverside Volleyball team has a tough weekend ahead as they travel to Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton this Friday and Saturday, November 12 and 13 respectively.
The Highlanders will look to snap their 12-game skid with a win against these teams, but will have to dig deep as the Titans are first in the conference standings with the 49ers immediately behind in second. Both teams are also receiving votes in the latest national poll.
UC Riverside lost a 3-2 heartbreaker to Long Beach State the last time these teams met, while Fullerton took home the 3-0 victory in the previous meeting. Watch the highlight video from these matches.
GAME NOTES
BEACH DAY
The Highlanders 3-2 loss to Long Beach State on Oct. 16 was their first five-set match against the 49ers in the Division I history of the program, and the first between the teams since Nov. 15, 1977 in a 3-2 UCR win. UCR's last win against LBSU was back on Sept. 19, 2003 in a 3-1 upset of #23 ranked Long Beach.
TURNING THE BIG 3-0
The Highlanders two wins in 2010 have both been of the 3-0 variety, as UCR defeated High Point in three sets on Sept. 10 to earn their first win of the 2010 season, and swept CSU Bakersfield on Oct. 2 for their second win. The High Point match marked the first three-set win for UCR since a 3-0 victory over Gonzaga on Aug. 30, 2008.
