Riverside—Junior forward Tessa Lennala was named the Big West Conference’s Co-Player of the Week after her performance this past weekend. Sharing the honor with Lennala, is Long Beach State’s junior forward Kim Silos.
Lennala began here award winning weekend on Friday, setting career highs with two goals and five points in a 5-1 victory over Fresno State. Sunday, against #25 San Diego, Lennala scored her team’s only goal in a 3-1 loss.
In the match against Fresno State, Lennala did all of her damage in the first half scoring the first goal, picking up an assist on the second and scoring again for the third, as the Highlanders jumped to an early 3-0 lead.
Lennala’s sly play on the ball on her goal scoring play against San Diego was a sight to see. The Toreros’ keeper Brittany Cameron, who earlier in the season was named Soccer Buzz Magazine’s Goaltender of the Week, was charging the ball in the right corner of the 18-yard box. Lennala simply lobbed the ball over Cameron, for the game-tying goal, which was her team leading fouth of the season.
Lennala is the first member of the women’s soccer team to win the player of the week award this season. A year ago, Heidi Garrett (9/24) and Linda Allen (10/29) were honored.
