Pacific 75, UC Riverside 58 - Box Score
Stockton, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team ran into a three-point buzzsaw Saturday evening as the Pacific Tigers made nine three-pointers in the first nine minutes of the game and finished the evening 14 of 22 on their way to a 75-58 win.
Pacific took a 29-10 lead over those first nine minutes as Allen Huddleston made four from long range, Demetrece Young connected on three and Sam Willard and Jose Rivera chipped in with one each. The Tigers were perfect from beyond the arc over that time.
Huddleston finally missed a three for the Tigers with 10:43 left in the first, but Pacific took a 20-point lead into the locker room. They missed just three of 14 threes in the half and made 14 of 23 shots overall from the field. Young led all scorers with 15 points and Huddleston added 12. Phil Martin's nine points paced the Highlanders.
UC Riverside regained its defensive composure in the second half as the Tigers made just 7 of 19 shots after the break. However, the Highlanders couldn't generate enough offense to mount a comeback shooting just 40.7 percent from the field over the second 20 minutes of play.
Huddleston finished with 23 points on the night including six of eight from three-point range while Young added 19 points including four of six from long range. Martin recorded his first career double-double with 17 points and a career-high 10 boards, and Javon Borum extended his streak of consecutive double-digit scoring performances to 16 with 10 points
The Highlanders return home this week for a Thursday, February 3 meeting with Cal State Northridge at the Student Recreation Center. Tip time is slated for 7 pm PT.
