UC Riverside vs. Cal State Fullerton Game Notes (Coming Soon)
Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team resumes conference play this Saturday, Janaury 8 as they host the Cal State Fullerton Titans at the Student Recreation Center beginning at 7:30 pm. At halftime, the Highlanders are honoring the program's first head coach, Dr. Frank "Lindy" Lindeburg, by retiring the jersey number 54 in his honor. To top things off, all of this will happen before a live television audience as the game is carried on Fox Sports Prime Ticket.
Fans who are unable to attend the game may also listen live on their computers as the Voice of the Highlanders, John Ramey, brings the call to gohighlanders.com via Stretch Internet's Game Central.
The Highlanders (6-7, 1-0) enter the Cal State Fullerton game having won three of their last four contests including a conference-opening 73-68 road victory over UC Irvine on December 28. That marked the third straight season that UCR has won its season-opening conference game.
UC Riverside's most recent victory came in a 94-48 decision over La Sierra. Seven players scored in double figures with B.J. Shearry (pictured) and Kevin Bradshaw posting double-doubles. Shearry complemented his 12-point, 11-rebound effort with four assists and four blocked shots.
The Titans are 5-9 on the season after splitting their first two Big West games of the year picking up a 54-51 win over Pacific but falling to UC Davis by an 88-72 score. They play at UC Irvine on Wednesday, January 5 before heading to the Inland Empire for what will be their second game in a four-game road swing.
Andre Hardy is Cal State Fullerton's leading scorer on the year at 15.7 points per game, but has played in just three contests after sitting out the early portion of the season following ankle surgery. Orane Chin is averaging 15.4 points while Jer'Vaughn Johnson adds 14.7 and Devon Peltier chips in with 12.6.
The Highlanders boast three players with double-digit scoring averages led by senior guard Javon Borum's 13.8 points. Phil Martin is right behind him at 13.3 points per game while Kareem Nitoto is averaging 11.1.
