Riverside—With four matches remaining in the 2011 regular season, the UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team (7-7-1, 2-2-0) is a half game back of the fourth and final conference postseason berth. The Long Beach State 49ers (10-5-1, 3-2-0), whom the Highlanders play on Friday afternoon at 3 pm PT (Follow Online), are currently in fourth place in the Big West.
The Beach entered play last week ranked #22 in the country, but road loses to Cal State Northridge (1-0) and UC Irvine (2-0), dropped them out of the rankings and into a precarious position with regards to the conference playoffs.
The Highlanders are 2-5-4 all-time against Long Beach State with their last win coming in a 3-0 road victory on October 29, 2006. The 49ers won last season's meeting by a 3-0 score on October 8, 2010.
Following the Long Beach State match, UC Riverside returns home to take on Cal State Fullerton (7-7-2, 1-3-0) on Sunday at 6 pm (Follow Online).
The Titans are coming off of a 1-0 non-conference win over CSU Bakersfield, and all three of their conference losses this season have been by 2-1 scores. Their losses to Cal Poly and Long Beach State both came in overtime.
UCR is 4-6-1 in the 11-match series against Fullerton, but the Titans have won five of the last six meetings including last year's 2-1 victory. Each of the last five matches between the clubs, including the Highlanders 3-2 road win on October 26, 2008, have been by one goal.
UC Riverside closes out the regular season with a home match vs. Cal State Northridge (5-7-2, 3-1-1) on October 27 and an October 30 road trip to UC Irvine (11-3-2, 4-1-1).
