UC Riverside Women's Soccer Still Eyeing Big West Playoff Berth
10/25/2011 2:47:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team enters the final week of the regular season needing two wins and some help from other teams to make its dreams of a 2011 postseason berth come true.
First up is an October 27 home match against Cal State Northridge. It is also Senior Day for the Highlanders, as they honor the Class of 2012 prior to the 7 pm PT kick off. Fans who are unable to attend may follow the match on their computers or select mobile devices via LiveStats.
So, what needs to happen for the Highlanders to make the postseason? Even with just two matches left, there are a number of possibilities. And even though the internet is theoretically infinite, we don't have the space to go through all the permutations here. Check back after Thursday's match, and we'll have it all mapped out for you.
In the meantime, the Highlanders still have to take it one match at a time, and first up is the Matadors who are in third place at the moment in the Big West. They just dropped a 4-1 decision at home to front-running UC Irvine, but prior to that, ripped off three sraight 1-0 victories in conference.
Cal State Northridge has won four of the last five meetings between the clubs including 1-0 victories in the past two matches. The Highlanders last win over the Matadors was a 1-0 decision on October 30, 2008 (box score).
Once UCR gets past CSUN, they have to hit the road to tangle with 19th-ranked UC Irvine on Sunday, October 30 at 2 pm. Fans who are unable to attend may follow along on their computers or select mobile devices via prestosports Primetime.
The Anteaters have won five straight conference matches after opening Big West play with a tie at UC Davis and a 3-2 loss at Pacific. They have outscored the opposition during that five-match stretch by a 10-1 margin.
UC Irvine has won the last four meetings between the clubs and own a 7-2-1 advantage in the series. The Highlanders last win came in a 3-0 decision on October 20, 2006 (box score).
