Riverside—Fresh off of a 14-point come-from-behind victory over Washington State, the UC Riverside Men’s Basketball Team returns home this Wednesday, November 30 for another meeting against a Pac-12 team. USC makes its first-ever trip to the SRC for a 7 pm PT tip.
Fans who are unable to attend the game can watch a live television broadcast as the collective "Voices of the Highlanders," John Ramey and Ghizal Hasan, bring the call to local government television (GTV) which is available in the Riverside area on Charter (Ch. 3), the greater Riverside area on Verizon FIOS (Ch. 21) and across Southern California on AT&T (Ch. 99).
The game will also be simulcast on Palm Springs ABC affiliate KESQ, and the audio of the telecast will be available via Stretch Internet on gohighlanders.com.
The victory over the Cougars marked the Highlanders second largest comeback in the Division I history of the program.
The UC Riverside offense, absent for a three-game stretch early in the season in which they averaged 45.3 points and shot 32.5 percent from the field, has bounced back over the past two games averaging 63.0 points and shooting 40.7 percent from the field.
Phil Martin continues to pace the Highlanders offense averaging 14.2 points and grabbing a team-high 6.2 boards per game, but a bit of a surprise candidate has emerged as a second potential scoring threat. Harrison Gaines has come off the bench to average 9.8 points over the last four contests. He is also the leading field goal shooter on the squad among NCAA qualifiers.
The Highlanders and Trojans have squared off against one another on four previous occasions, with USC winning all four. Most recently, UC Riverside traveled to the Galen Center on November 17, 2009 dropping a 77-67 decision. The only person remaining on the Highlanders roster from that game is junior forward David Chavarria who played four minutes as a reserve.
USC comes into the game having won two of its last three games following a 42-36 loss to Big West foe Cal Poly. Maurice Jones (16.0) and Aaron Fuller (13.9) lead a two-pronged Trojans offensive attack, but it is on the defensive side of the ball at which USC has excelled this season holding opponents to 58.4 points per game, 37.5 percent shooting from the field and 29.5 percent from three-point range.
