Second Half Struggles Lead To 69-47 Loss For Women's Hoops

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team was down by just six points at the half, but were outscored 37-21 in the second period as the Cal Poly Mustangs cruised to victory, 69-47, on Saturday afternoon in Big West Conference action at the Student Recreation Center.
Cal Poly (13-12, 9-3) led 32-26 at the break, but shot 45.8 percent from the field in the second half while limiting UC Riverside (5-21, 3-11) to just 23.3 percent shooting.
The Mustangs lead grew to double-figures less than a minute into the half, and reached the 20-point plateau with 12:09 remaining in the game. UC Riverside closed to 17 on two occasions, but could get no closer.
In the first period, there were five tie scores and five lead changes within the first 20 minutes of action. Cal Poly never led by more than four points, however, until free throws from Brittany Woodard with 1:46 left in the period made it a six-point game.
The Highlanders had a balanced scoring attack with Dynese Adams leading the squad with 12 points, while Natasha Hadley added nine, and Jessica Ogunnorin had eight. Cal Poly's Kristina Santiago led all players with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
The Highlanders continue Big West play with their final conference road game of the season on Wednesday, February 22 at Cal State Fullerton. Tip is slated for 7:00 pm in Fullerton, CA.
