Fullerton, CA—The UC Riverside Baseball Team (19-27, 7-11) continues its eight-game road trip this weekend with a three-game conference series against front-running Cal State Fullerton (32-15, 14-4).
The Highlanders are in eighth place in the conference, but just two games out of the fifth spot. The Titans have a two-game lead over Long Beach State.
UCR originally had a game scheduled with USC this Wednesday, but that contest was moved to next Wednesday to accomodate the Trojans who had to make up a conference game up north this week.
Entering this weekend's series, the Highlanders have won four of their last five games including taking two of three from Pacific over the weekend. Vince Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to 17 games on Sunday. The last UCR player to record a streak of more than 17 games was Ryan Harvey who established the program's Division I record in 2003 when he hit safely in 20 straight games.
UC Riverside's pitching rotation remains unchanged as Eddie Orozco (5-5, 2.48) throws on Friday, Trevor Frank (1-7, 4.02) goes on Saturday and Dylan Stuart (6-6, 4.18) gets the call on Sunday.
Cal State Fullerton has won six of its last seven games including two of three at UC Santa Barbara over the weekend. The Titans haven't lost a Big West series since Cal Poly took two of three from them in April of 2011.
CSF enters the week with the second highest batting average (.283) in the conference and the top on base percentage (.368) while averaging the second most runs per game (5.6) in the Big West.
They also boast the top ERA in the league (3.14) thanks in large part to a nearly staff-wide allergy to issuing bases on balls. The Titans top three starters in terms of innings pitched—Dylan Floro (90.1), Kenny Mathews (69.1) and Graham Wiest (67.0)—have walked just 34 batters between them.
