UC Riverside Women's Soccer Falls To San Francisco, 1-0
9/16/2012 1:22:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team had its four match unbeaten streak snapped Sunday afternoon as the Highlanders dropped a 1-0 decision to San Francisco. (Box Score)
UC Riverside outshot the Dons 8-1 in the first period, and Celina Valencia had a decent look at the net following a corner kick with 26:43 gone in the match. Unfortunately, a Dons defender got her foot on the ball preventing the goal, and the teams went into the half tied at zero.
The match was still scoreless until the 54th minute when Christina Moberg's corner kick threaded its way through the UCR box, and Lauren AbuAli slid the ball past the Highlanders defense to put San Francisco on top.
UC Riverside had a handful of chances to score the equalizer including a header by Shelley Brumbaugh that the Dons keeper tipped off the cross bar, but they were unable to dent the back of the net.
The Highlanders remain at home this weekend as they host their second tournament of the season. On Friday, September 21, Lamar squares off against UC Davis at 4 pm PT while UC Riverside hosts New Mexico at 7 pm. On Sunday, September 23, the Aggies and the Lobos kick off at 10 am while UCR and Lamar conclude the tournament at 1 pm.
