Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team has won two straight games and looks to make it three in a row on Monday as the Highlanders travel to Seattle for a 7 pm PT tip against the Redhawks (Watch pregame interview with Coach Cutts).
Chris Patton and Steven Thornton each recorded season highs in the team's most recent win at Southern Utah with 21 an 20 points respectively (recap/box score/audio highlights/Dennis Cutts pregame video interview). Patton added a career-high 15 rebounds for his second career double-double.
The 15-point margin of victory in the Highlanders' 74-59 win over the Thunderbirds is the largest margin for UCR in a non-conference road win since the team made the move to Division I in 2001-02.
The Highlanders now boast two double-figure scorers in Taylor Johns (17.0) and Chris Patton (10.5) while Steven Thornton (9.5) Chris Harriel (8.3) are close behind.
Seattle is 2-2 heading into the game with victories over Cal State Fullerton (75-71) and Evergreen State (100-59) and losses at Washington (88-78) and Boise State (86-68). Isiah Umipig, whom UC Riverside fans may remember from his two seasons at Cal State Fullerton, leads Seattle's offense averaging 18.8 points per game. The junior guard also leads the Redhawks in assists (5.5 per game).
The Redhawks are holding their opponents to 40.3 percent shooting from the field including 28.0 percent from beyond the arc. Seattle enters the weekend making 43.7 percent of its shots from the field and 34.1 percent from three-point range.
This is just the second meeting ever between UCR and the Redhawks (view all-time series). The Highlanders picked up a 75-46 victory over Seattle on November 22, 1996.
