Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team opened its 2013 season Friday evening welcoming UNLV to the Inland Empire, but it was the Rebels who scored late picking up the 3-2 victory (Box Score/Video Recap).
The Highlanders trailed 2-1 after the first period, but Tyler Cunningham headed in Alina Cheatham's corner kick with 12:10 to go in the match to tie the score.
That didn't last for long, though, as Jenn Wolfe scored her second goal of the match in the 82nd minute to give the Rebels the win.
Wolfe's first score came with 10:36 gone in the first following a defensive misplay in the Highlanders end of the field. Celina Valencia tied the score in the 34th minute with the sixth goal of her career, but Denali Murnan scored with 5:44 to go before the half to put UNLV back on top.
The Highlanders are on the road this Sunday as they travel to San Diego to take on San Jose State in a neutral site match on the campus of the University of San Diego.
