Gonzaga's First Half Goal Gives Bulldogs 1-0 Win Over Women's Soccer

Riverside—The Gonzaga Bulldogs scored in the 23rd minute of play Friday evening, and that score held up as they topped the UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team 1-0 (Box Score/Video Recap).
It was the third straight 1-0 defeat for the Highlanders who have been shut out six times in 11 matches this season.
The Bulldogs had the better of the play in the early going outshooting the Highlanders 8-5 over the first 45 minutes.
With just over 22 minutes gone in the match, Gonzaga goalkeeeper Christie Tombari unloaded a goal kick that sailed past the midfield line. Kasey Rubosky flicked the ball to Tori Lee, who flicked it to Karley Baggerly. Baggerly cut between to UCR defenders while gathering the ball, and beat Highlanders' keeper Elizabeth Silas to the left side of the goal putting the Bulldogs on top.1-0.
UC Riverside had a shot at the equalizer just before the half, but Danielle Lopez couldn't quite create enough space, and her shot was blocked by a Bulldogs defender.
The Highlanders turned up the offensive intensity in the second period outshooting Gonzaga 7-4 after the break. They also boasted seven corner kicks to the Bulldogs' one, but UCR was unable to tie the score.
UC Riverside begins Big West Conference play this Friday, October 4 with a 6 pm PT match against Cal State Northridge.
