Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team continues its nine-game home stand with a three-game series against Stony Brook this weekend at The Plex.
The Highlanders moved a game over .500 again Tuesday with an 11-6 victory over visiting Gonzaga (box score/recap). Francisco Tellez drove in three runs tying him with Nick Vilter for the team lead with 21. That ranks both Highlanders in the top 10 in the nation in runs batted in, and Vilter is tied with Kentucky's AJ Reed for the national lead in home runs with eight.
Stony Brook is 4-6 on the season, but has won four straight games following a three-game, weekend sweep of Fordham and a Monday win over Iona.
As a team, the Seawolves are hitting .254/.356/.305 and have just one home run on the season. Their pitching staff brings a 5.29 earned run average into the weekend. The Highlanders will likely see some combination of starters Brandon McNitt (1-1, 2.60), Frankie Vanderka (1-1. 3.12) and Tim Kresnik (0-1, 9.58) during the series.
This is the first-ever meeting between the Highlanders and the Seawolves.
