Women's Soccer Battles San Jose State To 0-0 Draw To Open 2016 Season

San Jose, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team opened the 2016 season on the road at San Jose State Friday, battling the Spartans to a 0-0 draw.
Redshirt junior Alanna Guzman made her first start between the pipes for the Highlanders, recording nine saves on the day in posting the first shutout of her career. That is the most saves for a UCR keeper since Elizabeth Silas also recorded nine on October 18, 2013 against UC Santa Barbara (box score/recap).
The Spartans outshot the Highlanders 16-4 on the day, with Christina Tucker pacing the offense with two shots, one of which was on goal.
UC Riverside remains on the road this weekend traveling to San Francisco, Sunday, for a 1:30 pm PT match against the Dons.
