Men's Basketball Held at Hawaii
2/17/2019 12:39:00 AM | Men's Basketball
HONOLULU, Hi.—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team took its momentum from a big win Thursday night on the road to Hawaii, but was halted by a Rainbow Warrior team that benefited from a quick turnaround and long trek for the Highlanders. Junior Dikymbe Martin added another 20+ night with some potent for UCR, but when it was all said and done, Hawaii pulled away 87-64.
The Highlander defense struggled in the first half as the Warriors didn't seem to miss shooting 18-for-29 from the field on their way to a 50 point outing before the half. They truly benefited most from their efficiency beyond the arc connecting on 9-of-13 threes.
UCR saw a decent shooting performance themselves notching .426 from the field, but nine turnovers would cost the team the necesary posessions to stay in the game as the Warriors tooka 50-29 lead into the half.
The second half was a different story as both teams hung neck and neck with the UCR defense stepping up to cool off the Warriors, but the first half lead would hold giving Hawaii the game 87-64.
Junior Dikymbe Martin piled on another 22 points to his career total shooting 8-for-13 overall and a potent 6-for-9 ffrom three. He also added a pair of boards, three assists, and a steal.
Freshman Callum McRae joined him in double figures with 13, just one short of tying his career high. The rookie big also pulled down three rebounds and nailed all three of his attempts from the stripe.
UC Riverside will now return home to take on Long Beach State Saturday night at the SRC Arena.
