Highlanders Draw in Big West Opener

LONG BEACH, Calif., - The University of California, Riverside (UCR) Highlanders tied 2-2 in their Big West opener, drawing with Long Beach State on the road at George Allen Field.
The first half was almost entirely scoreless, until the 45' when the Beach converted an opportunity with less than 20 seconds left in the period.
Long Beach State extended their lead early in the second half, putting the Highlanders at a 2-0 disadvantage in the 48'.
The Highlanders set to even the score in the final 20 minutes of play, with Alexandra Hargrave converting her sixth goal of the season of off a penalty kick awarded in the 71'.
UC Riverside continued to fight, with Leyna Wood scoring the tying goal in the final five minutes of play, off of an assist from Sam Ritchie.
UCR is now 2-2-5 overall, 0-0-1 Big West, and will return to their home pitch on Thursday, September 22 for a game against UC San Diego. Kick off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
