
Volleyball Beats Titans in Four for Season Sweep

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside hosted Cal State Fullerton in Big West action on Thursday night, completing the season sweep with a 3-1 victory at the SRC Arena.Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Syndee Rowe led UCR with four kills in set one, two of which came on an early 5-2 run that the Highlanders used to maintain close distance behind Fullerton. Â
- UC Riverside then turned on the afterburners in set two, hitting .583 to the Titans' .040 in a match-tying 25-15 win. The Highlanders manufactured 16 kills on 24 swings while registering six blocks – three apiece from Rowe and Mylei Vargas-Deason. Â
- UCR maintained a two-point lead early in set three before going on a 5-1 run to open a 10-5 lead after Rowe's kill Â
- UC Riverside generated 12 kills on 37 swings in set three to take a 2-1 lead in the match, as Sophia Ewalefo put down her ninth kill of the evening to give the Highlanders the advantage. Â
- Momentum was fully now on the side of UCR, who opened set four with a commanding 6-1 lead thanks to kills from Anya Green and Vargas-Deason. UCR shut the door with a .306 hitting percentage in set four to Cal State Fullerton's .115. Â
- UC Riverside ended the night with 57 kills and 11 total blocks, both of which marked the most at home and the second most in a match this season.Â

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTSÂ
- UC Riverside completed its first season sweep of Cal State Fullerton since 2018 while picking up its first home win of the season. Â
- Thursday's win also marked the sixth time in program history and first since 2018 that UCR has recorded four Big West victories. Â
- UC Riverside held the Titans to just 32 kills on the night, the second fewest by a Highlander opponent this season. Two of UCR's five lowest yielded single match hitting percentages this season have come against Fullerton. Â
- Three Highlanders recorded at least 10 kills for the evening, led by 16 from Vargas-Deason. The Anaheim native was one dig shy of a double double. Vargas-Deason was joined in double figures by Rowe (11) and Ewalefo (11). Â
- Ewalefo also flirted with a double double, adding nine digs to her 11 kills. Â
