Box Score LA JOLLA, Calif. - Eight Highlander runs was not enough to best the UC San Diego Tritons on a rainy Tuesday in La Jolla. UCSD took the 14-8 win over the University of California, Riverside (UCR) Highlanders at Triton Park.
The game tested the depth of the bullpen for each team, with a total of 8 Highlander and 7 Triton pitchers taking the mound over the course of 9 innings. Cruz Barrios threw two scoreless innings and struck out one batter. Tyler Frazier relieved him and threw two innings, let up one run and struck out one.
UCR bats were hot all day, with a steady spread of eight runs on thirteen hits coming across home plate throughout the game. Jayden Lopez was three for three with three RBI and two runs. He also walked twice to get on base a total of five times today.
The Tritons nine runs in the first two innings proved too much to overcome, and an explosive Highlander offense couldn't catch up.
The Highlanders return home on Friday, March 24, to open Big West play against Long Beach State. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
