Highlanders Fall to Tarleton State to Close Saturday Play

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - UC Riverside grabbed a 1-0 set advantage, but fell 3-1 to host Tarleton State in match number two at the Dr. Pam Littleton Classic.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UC Riverside instantly carried over the momentum from the morning win, going on a 4-0 run after falling behind 2-0. UCR later held a 12-8 lead after a lengthy rally before Sophia Ewalefo's five kills - including the set winner - gave the Highlanders a one-set advantage.
- UCR went on a 7-3 run to start set two, but Tarleton found its footing in a set two win. UC Riverside stormed back once more in set three with a 9-1 run to go ahead 18-17.Â
- Delaney Tate tied set three at 20 and UCR took full advantage of an attack error to make things 21-20 ahead of a Tarleton timeout. The Texans later pulled out the 25-22 set win.Â
- Hunter Thomas got set four going with two kills as the Highlanders went up 3-0 early and 8-4 before Tarleton called timeout. UCR took the Texans to the brink once more, but fell 25-23 in the fourth set.Â
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
- Tate registered a match-high 18 kills on 48 swings while Ewalefo followed with 16 kills. The New Orleans transfer finished her day with 31 kills in a 1-1 performance for UC Riverside on day one in Texas, also going for a double double against Tarleton with an additional 12 digs.Â
- The Highlanders set a season high with 58 kills in the nightcap while 57 digs was UCR's second-highest total this year.Â

UCR will conclude tournament play and the Dr. Pam Littleton Classic on Saturday morning with an 8:00 a.m. first serve against Maryland Eastern Shore.Â
