SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Riverside fell to 2-1-0 in Big West play on Thursday night with a 2-1 loss to the Gauchos on the road at UC Santa Barbara.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCSB scored their first goal off their first shot of the evening in the fourth minute of the first half.
- The Gauchos found the net again in the 30th minute of play, putting UCR at a 2-0 deficit heading into the locker room at halftime.
- Spenser Gonzales tallied the Highlanders' lone goal in the 55th minute, assisted by Daphane Mendez.
- Despite UCSB's aggressive offensive, firing off 10 shots to UCR's two in the first half, UCR's defense tightened up and held the Gauchos to just three shots in the second half. The Highlanders outshot UCSB in the second half with four attempts.
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
- Cassia Souza had an impressive five saves on 13 shots faced, with seven of those attempts landing on target.
- Gonzales led her team offensively, not only scoring the lone goal for UCR, but leading in attempts with three total, one on target.

- UC Riverside will continue Big West play on the road, traveling to Cal Poly for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff on Sunday, October 1 on ESPN+.
